I recently built a set of radiant heat baseboard covers for a friend of a friend who was remodeling his house. Both he and I were very please with how they came out.
This is a straight on view of a small section of the cover.

In researching how I could build these I was unable to find much on the market for custom baseboard heat covers. I am interested in finding out if there is a market for custom baseboard heat covers. I have created a survey to help me assess the market that can be found by clicking here. The survey has a link more pictures and the ability to enlarge them. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

we need 6 eight foot covers
help
I am interested in the research you did prior to enclosing what looks like an all metal baseboard (the same as I have) in wood and how much it might have reduced it’s efficiency. This option crossed my mind but with the already dry climate I live in I didn’t thing wood of any kind would hold up very long. Did you explore the possibility of making the same thing from sheet metal and what it might cost? I have run into the same problem you have with not being able to find a nice looking cover at a reasonable price. I am thinking of exploring the sheet matal fabrication avenue.
I too have been searching for an affordable cover for my baseboard heat. I live in a condo where they are all in need of repair or replacement. Nothing I have found is affordable. I have 4 that need to be replaced ranging in lengths from about 4 feet to 10 feet. I have seen some that I like but the price for one 6 foot cover is about 295.00. It would be quite costly to do four. There are alot of people here who would like to replace or our association would even kick in half if they weren’t so expensive. The picture about is beautiful, but I worked in a wood shop my whole life and I know that covers constructed of wood would be very expensive. If someone knows where you can get metal ones made for a reasonable price, I would love to get the link or address. Thanks!
Here is my response to Mark - I will post my response to his question about the research I did later.
>> I’ll respond to your question about the research I did later today. But I just wanted to send you a quick note to take a look at the following sites if your interested in sheet metal type baseboard covers - http://www.go-overboard.com/ and http://www.radiantwraps.com/. Those two were the best I found as far as style options available. I personally like the style offerings of the Overboards site.
I did think of doing them in sheet metal but I don’t have the right tools or sufficient knowledge to work with that type of material.
I’ll follow-up later with more info.
Take Care and good luck with your search.
Nice work Brian. I moved to a Ranch style house with hot water baseboard heat. The covers are over 40 years old and look like crap and I want to replace them all. This is the first time I have had a home with this type of heating and while it is ugly, it is wonderfully comfortable in my home. So my concern with going with wood is the reduction in efficiency. I’m trying to choose between wood or metal.
I’m trying to find someone who can address that concern.
Hi,
Your covers look great, as good as any commerical ones I have seen or installed for customers.
I appreciate your material list, but was wondering if you worked oo of some plans. Or did you just build them on the fly?
If you have plans for them would you consider sharing them?
Again, you did a great job.
Congradulations,
Tom W.
Sorry to drag this post out of the past but I was wondering if there are plans available for these covers? I am very interested making a set for my house and these would look a lot better than the ugly metal baseboard covers we have now.
Thanks.

For concern of heating efficiency consider peforated brass screens as the front vertical surface. The material isn’t too hard to find. Nice texture compliment to wood. I had them as part of wood covers for tall hot water radiators. Didn’t reduce efficency much at all. Also makes for an easier removable design.
Would like to see material list as well, nice job.
Thanks Donny
